These terms and conditions apply to your use of Handwriting To Text at penciltotext.com (the "service"). By using the service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

The service

The service converts images of handwriting into digital text, using either an AI model (AI scan) or an OCR engine that runs in your browser (Fast OCR). It is free to use and does not need an account. We may change, limit, suspend or stop any part of the service at any time, with or without notice.

Free usage limits

AI scan is limited to 10 pages per visitor per day, and requests are rate limited to keep the service fast and fair for everyone. Fast OCR runs on your own device and has no daily limit. We may change these limits at any time.

Your content

• You keep all rights to the pages you upload and the text you get back. We don't claim any ownership of them.
• You give us permission to process your pages only as needed to convert them, which includes sending AI scan pages to our AI provider. See the privacy policy for how this works.
• Only upload content you have the right to use. You are responsible for what you upload.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• upload content that is illegal, or that infringes anyone's copyright, privacy or other rights;
• use bots, scripts or other automated means to access the service;
• try to get around the usage limits, rate limits or bot protection, for example by rotating IP addresses;
• overload, disrupt, reverse engineer or attack the service or the systems it runs on;
• resell the service or offer it to others as part of your own product without our written permission.

We may block access for anyone who breaks these rules.

Accuracy

AI and OCR transcription can make mistakes, especially with hard-to-read handwriting, unusual layouts or low-quality photos. Always check the results before you rely on them, particularly for legal, medical, financial or other important documents. Words the AI is unsure about are underlined to help you review them, but an underline-free result is not a guarantee that it's correct.

Third-party services

The service relies on third parties, including Anthropic (AI processing) and Cloudflare (hosting and bot protection). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to how they handle data. We are not responsible for outages or changes on their side.

Our site

The website, its design, logo and code belong to us. These terms don't give you any right to use our name or branding.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or uninterrupted availability.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profits or business, that results from using or being unable to use the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above. Using the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
